Welcome to the Week Ahead!

We hope everyone is ready for a blessed and fruitful week at St. John’s Academy. As we move forward in our journey together, let us remember the words of St. John Chrysostom, "Be ashamed when you sin, not when you repent." May this week be filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and deepening our faith.

For this upcoming week:

Monday Lunch:
Thanks to the generosity of HVC and Russian School, we will have a complimentary lunch for all students on Monday, featuring chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and sliced veggies. Everyone is welcome to enjoy!

Liturgy on Friday:

The school will attend the Liturgy for the Exaltation of the Cross this Friday morning. Please ensure students are prepared and arrive on time to participate in this sacred service.

English Classes:

  • 4/5 Grammar:Continuing work on three-point expository paragraph writing.

  • 5th Grade Literature: Delving deeper into *The Secret Garden*, exploring themes of self-awareness.

  • 6th Grade: Reflecting on faith and respect in *Where the Red Fern Grows*.

  • 7/8 English: Examining character traits in *Silas Marner* and how they shape the story.

History Classes:

  • 4/5 History: Beginning to study Spanish California and the California mission system.

  • 6/7 History: Focusing on the French and Industrial Revolutions.

  • 8th History: Presenting mini-projects comparing flood myths and transitioning to Ancient Egypt studies.

Art Classes:

  • 2nd Grade (Thurs, Fri): Sculpting with modeling clay.

  • 4/5 (Mon, Tues): Starting Impressionist-style paintings.

  • 6-8 (Mon, Tues): Working on still life drawings.

  • Photo 8 (Thurs): Using handmade pinhole cameras for photography.

Religion Classes:

  • 2nd Grade (Thurs, Fri):** Exploring "Who is God?" and the nature of sin.

  • 4/5 (Thurs, Fri):** Learning about the Church Building and its significance.

Math Classes:

  • Test on September 27th for all students (Grades 4-8).

  • 4/5 Grade: Continuing Geometry, focusing on polygons.

  • 6th Grade: Solving word problems and creating equations.

  • 7/8 Grade: Strengthening math vocabulary and its applications.

P.E. Classes:

  • All grades will engage in various physical activities throughout the week to stay active and energized.
