2007 marks the 10th year anniversary of our first high school graduate, Ksenia Kurtow.

The year 2007 marks ten years since I last sat in a classroom as a high school student at St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy. I have been given the opportunity to reflect and share the different educational experiences I have had and the career goals I have achieved. During the fall semester of 1998, I traveled to London, England to participate in a study abroad program for three months. These three short months were filled with an abundance of cultural wealth and satisfaction. After three years of junior college, I transferred to California State University– Monterey Bay, where I majored in Liberal Studies and received a minor in Human Development. In 1999, while attending school on the Monterey Peninsula, I was hired by the City of Monterey’s Recreation and Community Services Department. I started working for the City as a summer recreation leader and since then, have been promoted several times. For three years I was in charge of an after-school program. I went on to being a Recreational Specialist for one of the city’s community centers. For the last three years, I have been the director of one of the four community centers. My job entails coordinating and implementing the center’s programs for all ages. I find my job very rewarding. In addition to my job, I am a member of St. Seraphim of Sarov Russian Orthodox Church of Monterey, where I actively participate in the Parish Council and Sisterhood and sing in the choir.
